So here is where we stand...
Alexandra is 8 weeks old today! So far she has endured two surgeries. The first was to fix her esophagus when she was two days old. She underwent another surgery soon after that to try to help one of her lungs. You see, her right lung has had some problems staying inflated since after the first surgery, and it's really the lung problem that has been keeping her in the hospital.
She has been doing better and better over the last few weeks. She's growing and becoming much more active and alert. She still requires the help of machines to breathe for her... more accurately, she requires the machine to keep pressure in her lungs, which in turn keeps the lungs from deflating in between breaths. We're hopeful that as time goes - and she grows more - her lungs will be better suited to working without the machines. Just like us big kids, our little kid has good days and bad days.
Unfortunately, our little munchkin had a few bad days recently. Fortunately, that trend seems to have stopped. She's now doing well enough that Suhey and I both got to hold her for a couple of hours each today. As you might imagine, that really made our day today!
Happy 8 week birthday, Alexandra
